Rent This: Rabbit Proof Fence
10/22/2006 – 8:38 pmIt came up at work last week: Movies about kids that are kidnapped: Rabbit Proof Fence. In this case, its a movie about a trio of girls who were part of the Aboriginal Stolen Generation…ie kids who were kidnapped by the state in Australia, in an effort to ‘civilize’ them.
They are taken from their mother to a missionary school. They not only escape, but hike 3000 miles across the continent back home. And then they did it again a few more times throughout their lives.
Very Interesting film. based on a book by Doris Pilkington.

Oi, McKenna!
I agree, it’s a quality flick. Except when the little sister craps out at the end. Why people like to give little sisters bad raps I’ll never understand.
Am I correct in believing that you live in Philadelphia? If so, I’m writing to ask a favor. On Nov. 9 and 10 (Thurs. and Fri.) I’m going to a veterinary public health conference at UPenn. I seek lodging. Not fancy lodging, or even sub-fancy lodging, but merely a roof and solid walls and the absence of a strong smell of urine.
Is there a chance that I could curl up on a corner of your floor for a night or two (it might be Wednesday and Thursday nights, or perhaps just Thursday)? If not, can you recommend any particularly colorful SRO’s in the area?
Your comrade in the eternal struggle against Outback-invading missionaries,
