Took Graham to Pennypack park for a stroll 2 weekends ago. First heard, and holy shit is this bird loud, then saw my first Kingfisher. Its was large too, which means it was likely a female.
Kingfishers are a rare example of reverse sexual dimorphism. Thats fancy speak for ‘the females are physically larger and have more colorful feathers then males’. Normally, for birds anyway, its the other way round. IE the boys are large and pretty and the girls are tiny and plain.
Its true. Honest.
