Did a lunch ride today because I blew myself up on Tuesday, didn’t ride at all on Wednesday, and needed to do something…
Anyway, I ended up riding thru Ft. Washington park with an eye towards going out to Joshua Road and then up the steep part of the road once or twice. It didn’t work out that way.
I came over the crest of the hill up from Militia Hill road, near the bird observatory. On the road was a chipmunk, which at first sight was very dead. Unfortunately for me, I looked a little closer. Its eyes were opened. Its chest was moving. It was still alive. Just paralyzed from the waist down. Maybe it was run over by a car, maybe it fell out of a tree.
A bird watcher walking his dog walked by. He moved the poor little guy off the road, so that instead of being flattened like a pancake, it would instead be hawk food. I went looking for a forest ranger to let them know where it was so that it could be put down.
So much for my lunch ride.
