Did the CyleSports circuit race in Doylestown, PA today. Great course, location and event.
Result wise, it was about the same as the rest of season. That is: a mid to back of the pack finish. I didn’t hang around to see the exact placing.
What went well: I went to the front right away and did some work on laps 1 and 2. Dropped to mid pack for a bunch of laps. Moved up and sat on my team captain’s wheel a bit later few laps. Bumped elbows and handle bars more then once to stay on it. Tightened the small gap between us whenever anyone came up in the wind looking to hop in.
It made sense to do this for 2 reasons: #1: my captain is a big guy and provides a good sized slipstream, so that helped me. #2: I felt like it was important to deny help that to anyone who wasn’t on my team.
So it was sort of justified. I’ve never really defended a wheel in a race before.
3 laps from the finish, I was in a not so great position, ie the back. The pack was thick and there were few opportunities to move up. I made a move thru a turn and then moved up a bit later all the way to the front.
2 laps to go, someone from Elite attacked. Folks went. My captain went. I went.
And then blew up about a mile later.
I drifted to the back and managed to stay on till the sprint. I finished at the very back. My captain got second.
And so ends my racing season. Next up, a few centuries. Alot of LSD rides. Maybe some weight lifting.
