MBV

The last time I saw My Bloody Valentine, it was the summer of 1992.  They played the Trocadero on a muggy night.  Buffalo Tom and Mercury Rev opened.

A good friend from high school was at the show.  He got progressively weirder as the opening bands worked thru their sets.  By MBV he was off his rocker.  Jumping up and down,  flapping his arms.

I found out later that he had been on some acid.

Unwise.  I think whoever drove him downtown carted him out of the building and took him home.

Anyway, My Bloody Valentine were fantastic.  Until they cleared the room(myself included) with You Made Me Realize.  After having seen at least 2 Sonic Youth shows, an early Luna show, an early Sebadoh show the previous year in college.  I was over the wall of noise.

I will admit to having a tinge of regret about that from time to time since then.

I definitely remember thinking that I had crew practice the next day and that My Bloody Valentine would be on tour again soon. What was the point of watching the rest of the set?

So 16 years later, and I am finally going to see what happens at the end of that song at Roseland, tomorrow night.  With ear plugs on.
