Ride in: I saw the above telephone/power poll on Stenton Avenue above the Morris Arboretum toward Valley Green road. It may be hard to tell from this picture, but the entire bottom of the pole is gone, shattered into 100 pieces. The top, actually most of the pole is still there, hanging suspended, between 2 poles. The wires are sagging. Its a sight.
Ride out: Lots of deer. Everywhere. I saw deer on the inside of the Arboretum. 4 does, no buck. Smart animals. There is probably alot of delicious plants in there for them. Lots of rare, exotic plants. (heh.)
A few miles later, I was riding by the Schuykill wildlife center. I was coming up a hill. My breath was starting to get short, I had inadvertently done most of the hill in my big ring. I switched out.
The road I was on has a shoulder overgrown with brush and bushes. As I got to the top of the hill, just as I thought my breath can’t get any shorter, I heard a loud crash. Startled, I turned to see a deer, only a few feet away, that was easily chest high kicking high over a bush, crashing into another one.
Took me a long stretch of road to get my breathing under control after that. I’m just glad I didn’t crap myself.
Later, at the intersection of route 23 and Bryn Mawr ave, I saw two furry things come out of someone’s wooded front yard.
I had the same feeling as when i saw that pig in a dog harness on the Nockamixon ride. At first I thought I was looking at some cats. Then I took in the tails, the snouts and ears. Not cats.
Foxes.
One had something in its mouth. A cub? Dinner? I couldn’t tell. That one heard me and double timed it across the road. The other stopped in the road, looked me, then turned back the way he came.
Lots of nature out there today.
